Task
-You will be writing your own animal description in paragraph form.
Procedure
-We will be writing these descriptions from the point of view of the animal. Ex." I love to sneak up behind my prey, and pounce on them without making a sound."
-So, we are pretending to be the animal and describing ourselves.
--We will use our five senses to describe ourselves.
----Sight: What does the animal look like?
What color am I?
What do the markings on my body look like?
Do I have very good eye sight?
Where does the animal live?
What do I see when I look around my home?
What does the area I live in look like?
Any other sights this animal might see.
----Sound: What noises does the animal make?
What do I hear around me? (Other animals, my enemies?)
Any other sounds this animal might experience.
----Touch: What does the animal feel like?
What does my fur, scales, skin, etc. feel like?
Is it hard, soft, smooth, rough, etc?
What does the ground, air, or water I walk, fly, or swim on feel like?
Any other touch sensations this animal might have.
----Smell: What does the animal smell or what do they smell like?
What might I smell in the area where I live?
What do I smell like?
What does my prey, or surrounding neighbors smell like?
Do I have a good sense of smell?
Any other smell sensations this animal might experience.
----Taste: What does the animal eat for food?
What other animals do I eat for food?
What is my favorite food?
What is my diet?
Any other taste sensations this animal might encounter.
-Normally, in a descriptive writing we would put the important details toward the front of the writing, but in our case (just like our animal cards) we will put the more
important and easy to recognize details toward the end of the writing, so the other students cannot guess it right away.
-You want to make it challenging for them to guess but not impossible.
-You want to describe it in great detail so that by the end they will be able to guess the animal easily.
-You will be writing your own animal description in paragraph form.
